The "WiseApp in Spanish study" is a 12-month study looking at how a phone app and a pill dispenser can help Spanish--speaking people living with HIV monitor and improve their overall quality of life. The study intends to enroll 248 partcipants in New York City, NY and La Romana, Dominican Republic.
The study involves 4 site visits to a clinic in Washington Heights (NYC) or Clinica de Familia La Romana, Dominican Republic, which will include taking a blood sample and completing a survey on an iPad (for all 4 visits).
At the end of the 1st visit, some participants will be asked to use a daily pill dispenser for their HIV medication and to use a health app in their phone during their participation in the study.
The 2nd site visit will occur at 3 months of the study, the 3rd visit at 6 months, and 4th visit will occur at 12 months (from the initial site visit).
At the end of the 12 month visit, some participants will be asked to participate in an in-depth interview to better understand the usefulness of the app in improving their quality of life and medication adherence.
